The cognitive and behavioural profile of children with maths difficulties
Using the CALM data we have been able to establish subgroups of children with selective maths problems (but preserved abilities in other domains of learning), general poor learners, and children who have academic attainment scores in the typical range. Children with selective maths difficulties have poor verbal STM and working memory relative to children who have learning scores in the typical range. However, these children have relatively strong STM and fluid reasoning skills relative to children with more general learning problems.
